Emergency First Aid at Work

Course Aims
The aim of this course is to allow the student to become a First Aider in their Workplace with a nationally recognised qualification.
This course complies with ‘The Health and Safety (First Aid at Work) Regulations 1981’

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

Explain the roles and responsibilities of a First Aider
Conduct a primary assessment
State causes of unconsciousness
Conduct a secondary assessment
Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
State difficulties related to breathing
Treat breathing difficulties
Treat various wounds and bleeding
State and manage medical emergencies
Treat burns and scalds
Treat bone & muscle injuries

Course Duration : 6 Hours

HSE First Aid at Work

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

Explain the roles and responsibilities of the First Aider
Complete an accident report form
Explain the procedures for reporting illnesses & injuries under RIDDOR
Conduct a primary and secondary assessment
Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) effectively
State difficulties related to breathing
State and treat difficulties related to circulation
State causes of unconsciousness
Manage medical emergencies
Treat burns and scalds
Treat bone & muscle Injuries
State and treat effects of heat and cold
State and treat the effects of poisons

Course Duration : 18 Hours

HSE First Aid at Work Refresher

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
• Explain the roles and responsibilities of a First Aider
• Conduct a primary assessment
• State causes of unconsciousness
• Conduct a secondary assessment
• Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• State difficulties related to breathing
• Treat breathing difficulties
• Treat various wounds and bleeding
• State and manage medical emergencies

Course Duration: 12 Hours

 

Paediatric First Aid (1 & 2 Day)

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
• Explain the roles and responsibilities in providing First Aid
• Complete an Accident Report form
• Explain the procedures for Reporting Illnesses & Injuries under RIDDOR
• Conduct a Primary and Secondary Assessment
• Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) effectively
• State difficulties related to breathing in children.
• State and treat difficulties related to Circulation
• State causes of Unconsciousness
• Manage Medical Emergencies
• Treat Burns and Scalds
• State and treat the effects of poisons
• Recognise and treat Meningitis
• The use of an Epi-Pen

Course Duration: 6 Hours & 12 Hours

 

AED (& O2)

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
• Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• State difficulties related to circulation
• Safely use an Automated External Defibrillator
• Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Oxygen Module (Optional)
• State the regulations on the correct storage and use of cylinders.
• Prepare a cylinder correctly and safely for use.
• Treat causes of unconsciousness with the use of Medical Oxygen.
• Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Safely administer pain relief gas.

Course Duration: 6 Hours

 

Basic Life Support

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
• Conduct a primary assessment
• Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Treat breathing difficulties
• Treat various wounds and bleeding

Course Duration: 3 Hours

 

Emergency Medical Technician

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
• State the roles of responsibilities of the EMT
• Define Scene Safety Management (Safety & Triage)
• Summarise Post Incident Procedures
• Explain and demonstrate the principles of good infection control
• Explain and Demonstrate a Patient Assessment
• Demonstrate effective communication skills with colleagues and patients
• Explain, Recognise and treat respiratory problems
• Explain and treat causes of obstructed airway
• Demonstrate basic and advanced airway management skills
• Perform Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support Skills
• Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Demonstrate the administration of Medical Gases
• Explain and Identify Normal/Abnormal heart rhythms and heart problems
• Discuss & demonstrate the use of different dressing used for different types of wounds
• Demonstrate treatment for a casualty in shock
• Discuss, recognise and treat a variety of medical conditions e.g. Heart Conditions, Asthma etc
• Identify and demonstrate skills necessary to assist a Paramedic
• Identify recognition features of trauma injuries and demonstrate appropriate treatment
• Explain, and demonstrate effective Spinal Immobilisation
• Define the effects and demonstrate treatment for a Chest Injury
• Define the effects and demonstrate treatment for Ballistic Trauma
• Demonstrate Patient Monitoring Skills, e.g. Blood Pressure, Pulse Oximetry, etc
• Demonstrate appropriate treatment to Head & Abdominal Injuries
• Demonstrate Road Traffic Collation (RTC) Management

Prerequisite: Valid HSE First Aid at Work Certificate
Course Duration: 40 Hours
